Software Engineer Intern

I was part of the growth and expansion of a commercial real estate tech start-up during my one year internship in New York City, USA. I have worked on different projects including databases, backend to front end programming. I have developed a web application with NodeJS for internal users to analyse and debug the database more efficiently. Developing a data pipeline to feed data to the freemium website has increased the Search Engine Optimization by 10%. I have learned to solve challenges on my own and gained insightful knowledge on technology. I am proud to be able to contribute to the growth and expansion of the start-up nationally.

Computer Engineer Intern

During my six-months of stay in Germany here, I received an unfinished project for me to complete and had to self-familiarize on LabView programming software, which has given me the confidence to independently learn, analyze, debug and develop the code. From learning from scratch to analyzing and charting the results no matter how challenging the problems were, I've learnt that with a positive attitude, determination and interpersonal skills, we can build an outstanding product for clients and users. I am honored to have my project showcased during the University's Open House.

Matrix Vision Private Limited

Floor Manager | Personal Assistant | Camera Crew

Film-making in this company is very fast pace and no mistake can be made as time is money, which has allowed me to be adaptive to changes quickly and be very careful. My director is hot tempered, loud and always rushing things to be done, yet he is able to produce remarkable results. To be able to co-direct and manage in film-making as the Floor Manager together with my director, I mastered managing skills on the ground and interpersonal skills. Being in charge of administering the company's actors and actress, clothes, props and schedule, I've learnt to be meticulous and organised. In the highly competitive film production industry in Singapore, trying to stand out was challenging. We clinched the "Best Drama Script" and "Best Drama Serial" award during Singapore Star Awards 2010.

Camera Assistant

Working as a camera assistant in Singapore's largest media broadcaster and provider, I have learnt to be comprehensive and related it to back end programming. You will only see the glamorous actors and actress on screen, but without the hard work and contributions behind the scenes, the product will never be working. It applies the same to programming as, no matter how good the front end program and first contact with the user are, it will still be a bad application if it is ruined by the back end program.

Registrar | Salad Prep | Expiditor | Steward

For such a nondescript service job, it was through being a waiter that I learnt most about the operations of business and customer service. My manager is from Australia and the way he trained me is to be myself! As the first point of contact with the customer, I represent in the way I communicate and serve. Being on the ground, efficiency is key, especially when I'm alone in the store. To be able to take orders, settle payments and make the salad, I have learnt to handle multi tasking in an order where it would satisfy the customers. The best part about this job is when customers want to customize their salads and I have to give my opinions on what goes well together. It creates an emotional attachment to the brand with great services. If you haven't tried their salads, smoked salmon is a must-try!

Vice-President | Project Director

In my Freshman year, I led an executing committee of 15 students, took charge of all monthly events and the welfare of the committee. I spearheaded many new initiatives, which resulted in an increased membership subscription by 30% from previous year. I spent four months organising the annual Winter Overseas Trip to Boracay Philippines, which has given me the confidence to liaise with vendors and participants as the first point of contact, crafting out a program list with safety measures imposed and making decisions for unexpected problems on the ground. Lieutenant Officer | Platoon Commander

I served the Singapore Army for 2 years, where I was trained to lead, excel and overcome as an officer. The famous 3 words of "Make It Happen" will always come from my commander when given a task. I learnt not to fear failure and to be confident when I conducted high risk activities. I learnt to plan forward and led my platoon to mission success. The tough training I received, through sleepless days and nights during missions, enabled me to work long hours and still be vigilant. This will definitely help me in programming as coding can sometimes be a long process and I still have to be attentive to avoid errors.
